Norway has introduced a ban on the entry of cars with Russian license plates — it will come into force on October 3. This was reported by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This decision was made to help Ukraine. “Norway, together with allies and like-minded people, is responding to the brutal war of aggression that Russia is waging against Ukraine. It is important that the sanctions are effective,” said Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.
The restrictions apply to personal vehicles with no more than nine seats. The entry ban will not affect vehicles belonging to citizens of Norway or the European Economic Area who permanently reside in Russia, as well as members of their families. Crossing the border by buses and minibuses will continue to be available.
Cars belonging to international organizations or crossing the border for humanitarian reasons (for example, for treatment in the country), as well as diplomatic transport, will also not be prohibited from entering the country.
About Norway's plans to introduce The ban on the entry of cars registered in Russia became known on September 20 — then the local publication Nrk.no wrote about it with reference to the country's Secretary of State Eivind Vad Petersson.
The car will not pass. What has changed in the rules for entry into the European Union from Russia
On September 8, the European Commission published new clarifications on sanctions against Russia. Entering the territory of the European Union with cars purchased or registered in Russia can be considered as importing them, and this is prohibited by the eighth package of sanctions adopted in October 2022. At the same time, the European Commission emphasized that the authorities of each EU country must independently assess the situation at the borders and apply prohibitions “proportionately and in a reasonable manner.”
Later, Poland, Finland, Lithuania, and Latvia adopted a ban on the entry of cars with Russian license plates , Estonia. Despite the fact that Norway is not a member of the European Union, the country has joined the sanctions against Russia.
