MOSCOW, October 3 First round matches of the Australian Open tennis (Australian Open) will take place over three days instead of two, according to the tournament website.
From the next edition, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season will begin on Sunday instead of Monday and will take place over a total of 15 days, which will reduce the number of late matches.
«We have listened to player and fan feedback and are pleased to offer a solution to minimize late match finishes while continuing to provide a fair and equitable on-court schedule. An additional day will achieve this goal, benefiting both fans and and the players. The first round will now last three days instead of two, which will also give fans an extra day of incredible tennis, entertainment, food and family fun,» said tournament director Craig Tiley.
The next Australian Open will be held January 14-28, 2024.
