SMOLENSK, October 2 The Smolensk region in flax sowing in 2023 took first place in the Central Federal District and third place in Russia, the regional administration reported .
It is reported that the regional administration has summed up the preliminary results of the harvest.
In general, as was announced during the meeting, the pace of harvesting work is ahead of last year. In particular, grain and leguminous crops were harvested from an area of 134 thousand hectares (84%), which is 4.6 thousand hectares more than the same period last year. The gross grain harvest is over 348 thousand tons in bunker weight, which is almost 3.5 thousand tons higher than the 2022 level. The leaders in gross grain harvest are Sychevsky, Pochinkovsky and Novoduginsky districts.
The situation with flax sowing was discussed separately at the meeting.
“In terms of fiber flax sown area, the Smolensk region has retained its leading position: this year the region ranks first in the Central Federal District and third in the Russian Federation. The total harvested fiber flax area is 4.2 thousand hectares,” the report says.
According to the regional administration, in total, Smolensk agricultural producers will have to harvest about 160 thousand hectares of grain crops, 19 thousand hectares of rapeseed, more than 4 thousand hectares of fiber flax, 2 thousand hectares of potatoes and open ground vegetables.
