The year is ending, but European countries are still refraining from imposing sanctions on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Russia . This policy is related to the Europeans’ fear of causing a fuel shortage in the energy market, an analyst from the Skoltech Energy Transition and ESG Project Center explained to RIA Novosti. Sergei Kapitonov.
Kapitonov emphasized that the issue of LNG supplies from Russia to European countries is “fragile.” He also did not rule out the possibility of introducing sanctions against Russian LNG in the future.
He added that in total about 20 billion cubic meters of Russian LNG were delivered to Europe in 2022. About 25 billion cubic meters were also delivered through gas pipelines, and if the Russian part of LNG is removed, this will lead to “catastrophic” conditions. consequences, since no other supplier is able to compensate for such a volume.
