The Investigative Committee opened a case of attempted terrorist attack against three teenagers from Syktyvkar (part 3 of article 30; paragraph “a” of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the press service of the department for the Komi Republic.
According to the investigation, the teenagers “tried to damage and set fire to the building of a transformer substation” located near the airport in Syktyvkar. “The defendants were unable to complete their plan for reasons beyond their control,” the department added.
Shot writes that all suspects are 16 years old. Earlier, a telegram channel, citing an unnamed source, reported an attempt to set fire to a substation building with radio beacon control units that allow pilots to determine the distance to the landing strip.
According to Shot, on the morning of October 4, workers noticed that the substation had been opened ventilation grille, and the building also smelled of gasoline. As the authors of the publication suggested, the teenagers lowered a five-liter canister of gasoline into the staff room through the ventilation, and then tried to set fire to the fuel using Molotov cocktails. However, the fire did not start.
The Investigative Committee says that investigative actions are now being carried out with the teenagers. The investigation plans to apply for a preventive measure in the form of detention.
