MOSCOW, 6 Oct. The head of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Suleiman, explained the admission of boxer Artur Beterbiev to fights under the auspices of the organization, despite the suspension of the Russians.
Earlier, Suleiman announced the exclusion of all Russian and Belarusian boxers from the WBC ratings. He also announced that fights under the auspices of the organization would not be held on the territory of the countries. However, Beterbiev has already taken part in two fights.
“»Arthur has been living in Canada for 15 years. He has a Canadian passport, a Canadian boxing license. His children were born in Canada. This is a completely different story,» Suleiman told the YouTube channel Boxing Scene.
Beterbiev is the world light heavyweight champion according to the versions of the World Boxing Council (WBC), the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF). The 38-year-old Russian has 19 victories in 19 fights in the professional ring, all of them by knockout.
