In Kazan, Saratov, Kirov, Moscow and St. Petersburg, on the day of the murder of Novaya Gazeta columnist Anna Politkovskaya, rallies were held in her memory. The journalist was shot dead on October 7, 2006 in Moscow; the security forces never found those who ordered the murder.
About 20 residents of Kazan laid flowers at the monument to the victims of political repression. As 7×7 writes, they remembered not only Politkovskaya, but also the Nizhny Novgorod journalist Irina Slavina, who committed self-immolation near the building of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region on October 2, 2020.
Saratovite Andrei Kalashnikov came out with a sign on his chest “Single picketing” and small posters, one of them said “Anna Politkovskaya is a journalist, human rights activist. Killed in the entrance of her own house,” and on the second — “Freedom for political prisoners of Russia.” According to photos published by Sota, he also held portraits of Victoria Petrova, Liliya Chanysheva, Alexei Gorinov and Vladislav Sinitsa.
In Kirov, activists came out with two posters. One of them lists places around the world named after Politkovskaya. The second activist made a poster that begins with a number — the number of years since the murder of the journalist. At the same time, the old number is crossed out and “17” is written, followed by the words “The customer will not find it. The crime has not been solved.» The photos were posted by “Idel. Realities.”
From the very morning, as SotaVision writes, flowers were brought to Politkovskaya’s house in Moscow at 8/12 Lesnaya, where she was killed, and to the Novaya Gazeta editorial office building on Potapovsky Lane. They were also brought to the Solovetsky Stone in St. Petersburg, Sever.Realii reports. On the sheet with the photo of the journalist, which was left by St. Petersburg residents, there is the signature “The killer continues to kill.”
Last week it became known that the Ulyanovsk administration did not allow a picket in memory of Politkovskaya to be held in the city center. The city authorities explained the refusal by saying that “a public event dedicated to Russian military personnel defending the independence of the Russian Federation” would be held there.
