MOSCOW, 10 Oct. The elections in Bavaria and Hesse were a disaster for the coalition government of Olaf Scholz, the only way out for him and his allies is a sharp reboot of politics, writes Focus.
As the publication notes, the ruling coalition parties in Berlin — the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Greens and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) — lost, and for them it was “not a defeat, but a disaster.” “After this Sunday, everything in Berlin will not be the same as it was before,” Focus points out.
What irritates Germans most is the difference between the words and the real deeds of the government, the publication notes. “Olaf Scholz may think that he is a good head of government, but this is not so. And the louder he says how good he is, the more doubts the population has. This is so: it is not the people who did not understand the chancellor, but the chancellor who did not understand the people,” — says the article.
Moreover, if Scholz believes what he says about himself, then “only one verdict” can be made: he is “the greatest illusionist” who has ever sat in the office of the Federal Chancellor.
As Focus writes, if the current government coalition wants to continue its activities, it needs a reboot: first a “ruthless” inventory, then a “restart” without any taboos.
However, the trust in each other among the partners in the “traffic light” coalition “has long been exhausted.” “No one trusts the other anymore, this is the real reason for the endless disputes. And there are not fewer, but more of them,” the publication sums up.
Elections in two federal states ended on Sunday, in both cases the opposition Christian Democratic (preliminary) retained the lead result 34.6% in Hesse) and the Christian Social Union (preliminary 37% in Bavaria) — CDU/CSU. Olaf Scholz's SPD, as noted by Spiegel, suffered the largest defeat in the history of its participation in elections in these regions.
