In Yaroslavl, the courts overturned the decision to change gender markers in the documents of two transgender men — Evgeniy Stark and Richard Skornyak, who had been under investigation for drug charges since the beginning of 2020. Their story was told by 76.ru.
The prosecutor's office's claims over the passports of 25-year-old Yaroslavl residents were satisfied in December 2022 by the Kirovsky District Court of the city. As 76.ru writes, the decision was made on the basis of a blood test, which “showed that genetically they were still women.” Stark tried to appeal this, but in September 2023 his appeal was rejected.
In June 2023, another court rendered a verdict in the criminal case of the Yaroslavl residents. Stark, who was accused of one episode attempted drug sales, was sentenced to 4 years and 1 month in a general regime colony, and Skornyak, who had three such episodes, was sentenced to 5 years 2 months.
According to investigators, in December 2019 and January 2020, they took and left stashes with “salts”, MDMA and amphetamine in new places. Lawyers for Stark and Skornyak told 76.ru that both Yaroslavl residents wanted to make money on operations related to the transgender transition, and after that stop distributing bookmarks. They did not have time to complete the transition before being detained.
In the pre-trial detention center, both were kept in solitary confinement. “The attitude is biased, to say the least. There were ridicule and inappropriate vulgar jokes. That is, there was no open aggression, but disdain was present. This is somewhat annoying and surprising, considering that we did not kill or rape anyone. For some reason, even such people are treated more acceptable in prison,” one of them told reporters.
