ANKARA, Oct 14 The Turkish state oil and gas company BOTAŞ denied reports that appeared in the media and social networks about Turkey’s alleged gas debt to Russia at $27.5 billion and negotiations on its restructuring.
«In recent days, it has become necessary to inform the public about unsubstantiated and groundless allegations that have appeared in some media and social networks that Turkey's gas debt to Russia has reached $27.5 billion and that negotiations are underway to restructure this debt. Extremely significant and it is purposeful that BOTAŞ, which is the flagship of our country in the field of energy, is brought to the agenda with such unfounded accusations these days, when gigantic investments and export agreements are being implemented, which are on the global agenda, on the way to making Turkey a central country in the field energy in the year of its centenary (this year the Republic of Turkey celebrates its centenary – ed.),” the statement says.
The company said Turkey “should not rely on such unfounded news and accusations, which are deliberate, malicious and have various purposes to damage our organization in the national and international arena and reduce its brand value.”
