The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry announced the failure of anti-Russian sanctions

MOSCOW, Oct. 15 Sanctions against Russia, contrary to the expectations of the European Union, could neither bring Russia to its knees economically nor bring to the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó.

"We also need to discuss the issue of the impact of sanctions against Russia: who do they harm more – us or Moscow? do they have any meaning, whether they led to results, whether they achieved their goals, namely, “to bring Russia to its knees economically,” to move closer to peace. Whether we succeeded or not. <…> I think it’s obvious that it didn’t work out,” Szijjártó emphasized.

The minister noted that this issue is not currently being discussed in the European Union.

“As soon as you raise this question, you are being driven into a corner and humiliated,” he concluded.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the restrictions of the West, which has repeatedly voiced opinions that restrictive measures are ineffective. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously noted that the policy of containment and easing is the long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of US leaders and their allies is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
