MOSCOW, October 16 A child should start getting acquainted with Russian literature with Tolstoy’s fairy tales and stories, and an adult with Belkin’s Pushkin stories, said teacher Oleg Yankovsky, who became a teacher this year year of Russia.
“The answer to this question will depend on who asks: a child, an adult or a foreigner. I would advise a child to read Tolstoy’s fairy tales from his ABCs. In them, very simple plots convincingly and vividly convey very simple and such important truths of life. If “An adult who has not read Russian literature before will ask, I will offer him Pushkin’s stories by Belkin,” Yankovsky said when asked what is the best way to start getting acquainted with Russian literature.
Speaking about Belkin's stories, he noted that they are fascinating, talentedly written, while the plot of the stories is often sharp and unexpected, the composition of some stories is non-linear, and the range of problems is close to any person.
“I would recommend Chekhov to a foreigner as one of the most popular Russian writers in the world. Also, to get acquainted with the real Russian flavor, I would suggest the work of Leskov,” concluded Teacher of the Year.
Oleg Yankovsky, a Russian language teacher at a school at the Russian Embassy in Iran, became the Teacher of the Year 2023; his name was announced on Teacher’s Day.
