The new strategy is called Stellantis Pro One, it is designed to increase sales and profitability of the corporation's light commercial vehicles. Three new electrified pickups and the long-awaited all-electric Ram ProMaster EV have been announced for North America.
Stellantis sells light commercial vehicles (LCVs) under the Citroen, Fiat, Opel/Vauxhall, Peugeot and Ram brands, with some models having clones under the Toyota brand as the collaboration between Stellantis and the Japanese company continues. Stellantis' annual LCV sales are approximately 1.6 million vehicles per year and generate a third of the corporation's net revenue. Ford sells about 300,000 more cars per year in the LCV segment and is the leader in the global market; Stellantis ranks second, but aims for first — for this, in fact, the Pro One strategy was developed.
If the strategy is successfully implemented, Stellantis' net revenue in the LCV segment should double by 2030 compared to revenue in 2021 (specific figures are not disclosed), net profit from sales of vehicles in the LCV segment and related services should reach 5 billion by 2030 euros, while 40% of sales should be electric vehicles.
On October 23, Stellantis will present an updated line of vans of different classes with different power plants, including hydrogen. Let us recall that Stellantis launched small-scale production of one-ton hydrogen vans at the end of 2021. What exactly the update will consist of is still unclear. According to Automotive News Europe, the maximum range per charge of the large Fiat E-Ducato van and its clones under other brands will increase from 370 to 420 km, which is 20 km more than the recently updated Mercedes-Benz eSprinter, which is currently the leader for this indicator.
Fiat E-Ducato
The Fiat Ducato is the oldest Stellantis model in the LCV line; it has been in production since 2006 and regularly receives updates; the overseas clone of the Ram ProMaster has been in service since 2013 and does not yet have an electric version. By the end of this year, Stellantis promises to introduce the long-awaited Ram ProMaster EV — its debut is obviously tied to the next update of the European Citroen Jumper, Fiat Ducato, Opel/Vauxhal Movano and Peugeot Boxer.
In May 2022, Stellantis and Toyota announced a new family of large vans for the European market, with a premiere scheduled for mid-2024. In today's Pro One strategy press release, the new joint model is not mentioned for some reason, but there is a paragraph where it is said that Stellantis is preparing a new dedicated large delivery van with a sliding side door and a roll-up tailgate — perhaps this is there is a new joint model with Toyota. It is unclear whether this new van will be a replacement for the Ducato or will be sold alongside it. Ducato, in any case, needs a generational change; there is no one on the market older than him.
Ram 1500 REV
To North American Next year, the full-size electric pickup Ram 1500 REV will enter the market, then in addition to it, Stellantis will release three more different-sized electrified pickups, that is, they can be either hybrid or electric, one of the pickups will be offered with a hydrogen power plant. Let us emphasize once again that we are talking about trucks specifically for North America, and not about budget models for Latin America and other emerging markets. In general, many premieres are expected, follow the news on our website.
