The arbitration court declared Google's Russian subsidiary bankrupt

The Moscow Arbitration Court declared Google LLC, the Russian representative office of Google, bankrupt, an Interfax correspondent reports from the courtroom.

In May 2022, the Russian representative office of the company itself began bankruptcy proceedings — a month later, a corresponding lawsuit filed with the capital's arbitration court. The total debt of Google LLC amounted to 53.6 billion rubles, said temporary manager of the company Valery Talyarovsky.

RBC, citing a Google representative, reported that the reason for starting bankruptcy proceedings was, in particular, the seizure of the company’s bank account — because of this, according to the representative, it became impossible to work in Russia.

Previously, Google was charged a billion rubles in penalties in a lawsuit filed by the Tsargrad channel due to blocking on YouTube. Later, according to similar claims, NTV Television Company, GPM Entertainment Television and TV-Novosti recovered more than 1.5 billion rubles from the company, and Google’s property and accounts were seized.

The company was also repeatedly fined for refusing to remove “prohibited” content at the request of Russian authorities — in particular, information about the war in Ukraine. One of the last such fines — three million rubles — was imposed in August by the magistrate of court district No. 422 in Moscow. Then the reason for the administrative case was the company’s refusal to remove from YouTube several videos about the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine and instructions on how to penetrate protected objects.
