Russian Alexey Sivokhin, who fought in Donbass on the side of Ukraine and received Ukrainian citizenship in 2019, will be tried in Russia. This follows from the card on the website of the Khimki City Court of the Moscow Region.
The telegram channel “Caution, News” spoke about Sivokhin’s case today. According to his information, Sivokhin has been fighting on the side of Ukraine since 2016. The website of the President of Ukraine says that in 2019, the military man was given citizenship of this country. The press release noted that Sivokhin and other foreigners who then received citizenship were “direct participants in the hostilities in eastern Ukraine.”
In January 2022, continues “Caution, News,” Sivokhin came to Russia . It is not known exactly when and where he was detained. Judging by the database of the Moscow Regional Court, in May 2022, this court for the first time considered an appeal based on the materials of the case of Sivokhin, who was then accused of manufacturing explosives (Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code). Most likely, Sivokhin then appealed the arrest or its extension.
In May 2023, the case was submitted for consideration on the merits to the Khimki court. By this time, Sivokhin had already been charged with attempted hooliganism, illegal acquisition and storage of weapons and ammunition. However, two months later, the court returned the materials to the investigation, deciding that Sivokhin should be charged with more serious charges.
The Moscow Regional Court also agreed with this decision. It follows from the resolution that Savokhin, having arrived in Ukraine in 2016, joined the Right Sector. Having received Ukrainian citizenship, he applied to renounce Russian citizenship and came to Russia. The court ruling states that after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Sivokhin decided to stage an “illegal act” in a public place. The investigation claims that they found Molotov cocktails, an explosive substance and an explosive device in the forest, which Sivokhin hid.
The court concluded that Sivokhin’s actions should be qualified as preparation for a terrorist attack and participation in an extremist organization. The case has not yet been re-submitted to the Khimki court; Sivokhin’s arrest period has been extended until November 3. According to Beware News, the charge was reclassified a few days ago.
