The former coordinator of Navalny’s Kurgan headquarters was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison in the case of military “fakes”

The Kurgan City Court sentenced in absentia six years in prison to the former coordinator of Navalny’s local headquarters, Alexei Schwartz, in the case of “fake news” about the army (clause “e”, part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). The publications “7×7” and URA.RU reported this with reference to the press service of the court.

The activist was also banned for three years from being an administrator of websites and chats in instant messengers.

A criminal case about “fake news” was opened against Schwartz in the summer, and on July 7 it went to court. What exactly became the reason for the persecution is unknown. In a conversation with Mediazona, the activist explained that he does not have a lawyer in Kurgan who could familiarize himself with the case materials.

In 2021, Alexey Schwartz left Russia after another criminal case was opened against him – for violating the secrecy of correspondence and telephone conversations (Article 138 of the Criminal Code) due to an investigation into fraud in voting on amendments to the Constitution.

In August 2021, the Ministry of Internal Affairs put the oppositionist on the wanted list.
