MOSCOW, October 20. The United States should not suspend aid to Israel because of support for Ukraine, given the varying degrees of allied relations with them, write Heritage Foundation Chairman Kevin Roberts and Republican Senator from Ohio James David Vance in an article for the American newspaper Hill.
“Instead of withholding aid to Israel for the sake of additional funding for Ukraine, Congress should give the situation in Israel the separate discussion and vote it deserves,” the publication says.
As noted the authors of the article, Israel is a historical partner of the United States and its key ally in the Middle East, while Ukraine is not even a NATO partner. The publication also talks about the democratic regime of Israel, which is compared with the Kiev regime, riddled with corruption.
“»In addition, Israel has rich neighbors, but they are not going to help Israel in military operations, and help is unlikely to come from any or any source other than the U.S. The same cannot be said for Ukraine, whose rich EU neighbors—especially Germany and France—could provide significantly more assistance,” the authors say.
According to Roberts and Vance, the U.S. is paying too much a lot of attention to Ukraine, spending a large amount of resources on it at the expense of such allies as Israel and Taiwan, and the new aid package to Kiev will only worsen this situation.
Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky said in an interview with France 2 TV channel that escalation in Israel risks «distracting» the attention of the international community from the conflict in Ukraine.
