MOSCOW, October 22 The introduction of wood transportation control using artificial intelligence throughout Russia can begin in 2024, the corresponding amendments to the legislation are already being prepared, said the deputy head of Rosleskhoz Vyacheslav Spirenkov.
In 2022, an experiment was conducted in the Perm region to automatically control the transportation of wood using artificial intelligence and video cameras. Based on the results of the analysis, the system recognized 1052 vehicles from the traffic flow as timber transport equipment, while 370 facts of transportation were not confirmed in LesEGAIS.
“We are now at the stage of detailed study of the financial and economic feasibility study and preparation of amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences. We must transfer fines from manual to automatic mechanisms, so that just like for violating traffic rules, we could send these fines,” Spirenkov said.
According to him, in the near future it is necessary to decide how the fine will be calculated, in what amount, and from what funds the installation of cameras will be financed.
«We hope that we will work through these issues and, I think, in the next month or two we will send the entire package to the government. Mass implementation will most likely begin next year,» Spirenkov added.
LesEGAIS is a unified state automated information system designed to automate state control of forest transactions.
