MOSCOW, October 20 There are no justified prerequisites for jumps in prices for vegetables in Russia, it is necessary to take measures that will quickly affect the cost, noted the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev , whose words are quoted by the press service of the ministry.
According to Rosstat, in the week from October 10 to October 16, prices for fruits and vegetables increased by an average of 0.4%.
“A meeting was held at the Russian Ministry of Agriculture on the current situation and production forecasts in protected soil vegetable growing. The event, chaired by the Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev, was attended by heads of leading companies in the industry, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia,” the ministry said in a statement.
«Dmitry Patrushev emphasized that, given production indicators, there are no justified prerequisites for price hikes, and called on business representatives to take measures that would quickly affect the cost of vegetables,» it is specified there.
The Minister noted that in recent years, thanks to a set of government support measures, vegetable growing, primarily greenhouse production, has been growing.
According to him, in 2022, the overall production of vegetables in the organized sector amounted to 7.2 million tons, and in protected soil it set a new record — the harvest exceeded 1.6 million tons. This year, according to the department's forecasts, growth in vegetable growing is again expected, including in winter greenhouses — by another 1-2%.
