The creator of the “Immortal Barrack” project in memory of victims of political repression, Andrei Shalaev, said that security forces detained him for accompanying French journalists to the Mednoye memorial complex near Tver.

In a post on the Immortal Barracks public page, published on the night of October 22, Shalaev writes that he had not gone to bed since six in the morning on October 19. The details of the activist’s detention are still unknown, but he said that he is now safe and intends to appeal the actions of the police officers.

On the evening of October 19, a post appeared in the Immortal Barracks public page stating that Shalaev had been detained in Tver. On October 21, it became known that that day the activist called his loved ones “from a paddy wagon.” The security forces did not allow Shalaev to leave Tver, although he had purchased a return train ticket. After that he did not contact.

The Mednoe memorial complex in the Tver region is dedicated to the memory of Polish prisoners of war who were shot by the Soviet authorities in the spring of 1940. In early October, it became known that busts of Joseph Stalin, Mikhail Kalinin, Sergei Kirov and a sculpture with Vladimir Lenin, Felix Dzerzhinsky and Yakov Sverdlov were installed on the territory of the complex.
