Last Friday, October 20, the investigation asked to send the journalist to a pre-trial detention center for a month and a half, but no preventive measure was chosen for her. The court extended Kurmasheva's detention by three days. The hearings on the case are held without the press or listeners.
Alsa Kurmasheva was detained on October 18. Her case is the first known case of application of Part 3 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code, which establishes punishment for refusal to register as a “foreign agent” by a person “carrying out targeted collection of information in the field of military, military-technical activities of the Russian Federation, which, when received by foreign sources can be used against the security of the Russian Federation.»
The state agency Tatar-Inform, citing investigative materials, claimed that Kurmasheva received information about the mobilized teachers of one of the universities in Tatarstan, and then used it “in preparing alternative analytical materials for specialized international authorities and conducting information campaigns discrediting Russia.”
Radio Liberty reported that the journalist lived permanently in Prague and flew to Russia in May “due to urgent family needs.” When she tried to return to Prague in June, she was detained at the airport and both her American and Russian passports were taken away. On October 11, the magistrate fined her 10 thousand rubles in the case of failure to notify of second citizenship (Article 330.2 of the Criminal Code).
