Roskomsvoboda experts believe that the reason for blocking was materials that talk about the war and say that Crimea is part of the territory of Ukraine. Also subject to restrictions were the Zaporozhye news portal 061.ua and the domain of the human rights organization Justice for Peace in Donbass.
In addition, the Samizdat Online website and the additional domain of the Echo project, launched by former employees of Echo of Moscow, are included in the register of prohibited information. As Roskomsvoboda writes, in this case the blocking may be due not only to the fact that the publications talk about the war in Ukraine, but also publish critical materials about Russian politics.
Echo's first website was blocked in Russia on October 6 last year — four days after its launch.
