The Left Party of Germany demanded that Wagenknecht resign from her mandate

MOSCOW, Oct. 23 The German Left party considers irresponsible Sarah Wagenknecht's decision to create her own party requires her to resign from her parliamentary mandate, party co-chair Martin Shirdevan said on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, Wagenknecht, who criticizes Germany’s participation in military supplies to Ukraine and sanctions against the Russian Federation, announced at a press conference that she was leaving the Left party and in the future creating her own party with several associates, advocating “sanity and justice.”

«As you probably know, today Bundestag deputy Sarah Wagenknecht announced her resignation from the Left and the subsequent creation of the Sarah Wagenknecht party alliance. Unfortunately, the actions of this deputy in this case are absolutely irresponsible,» Shirdevan said on press conferences.

He said that the Left party expected such a development of events. In addition, he demanded the resignation of her deputy mandate, since she entered the Bundestag on the “Left” party list.
A similar statement was made by one of the most experienced and authoritative members of the “Left” party, Gregor Gysi, who, at the end of the existence of the GDR, became the chairman of the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS), formed on the basis of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany, which had always ruled in East Germany ( SED).
“We, the directly elected members of the Bundestag from the parliamentary faction “Left”, call on those ten members of the parliamentary faction who left the party “Left” to create a rival party to resign their mandates,” Gysi wrote on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
He emphasized that these deputies entered parliament as members of the Left party, which is now being criticized.
“If they retain their mandates, they will begin their new project with a highly immoral “theft”. We also believe that it is possible to argue and fight to change the policy of our party, but not by leaving it,” added Gizi.
Wagenknecht has been ranked third in the ranking of the most popular politicians in Germany several times in a row this year. The politician organized a large rally in Berlin on February 25 for a truce in Ukraine and against further escalation of the conflict due to Western arms supplies. In March, she announced that she would no longer run for the Left. In June, the board of the Left already stated that Wagenknecht needed to resign, but she replied that she did not intend to do so.
