photo: repair of the Balticconnector gas pipeline
The Swedish government said that telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea were damaged, as was the Balticconnector gas pipeline, which connects Estonia and Finland, as a result of external influences.
The statement from the Swedish government also notes that damage to the cables connecting Sweden and Estonia is directly related to a leak in the gas pipeline. This was reported by Reuters.
On October 8, gas pipeline operators discovered a drop in pressure in its offshore part. Finland discovered “external traces” near the leak site and expressed suspicions that the Chinese container ship Newnew Polar Bear was involved in the damage to the pipe.
There was also speculation about the possible involvement of the Russian vessel Sevmorput in the incident, but this was denied by Rosatom «.
Later, on October 17, Sweden reported damage to the undersea communication cable with Estonia, and Estonian police noted the similarity of the damage.
China announced its cooperation with Finland as part of the investigation into the incident by damage to the gas pipeline.
