
MOSCOW, Oct. 24The Bryansk regional court sentenced a member of the Saranskie gang, who committed murders and attempts, to 22 years in prison, reports the joint press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the Bryansk region.
The court found that a native of Mordovia, Alexander Kanaev, carrying out tasks for the leaders of the Saranskaya gang, in 2001 shot four times at the victim, who, however, remained alive; in 2003, he killed a man with a pistol shot near the cafe «Don't Cry» in the park of culture and recreation named after the 1000th anniversary of Bryansk, and in 2007, together with other bandits, he strangled a victim in the village of Lesozavod, Bryansk region.
«»In 2009, Kanaev eliminated a competitor from an opposing group by shooting him seven times with a machine gun through the window of the car he was in,” they added in the press service.
“Taking into account the punishment imposed under the first sentence handed down to Kanaev by the Bryansk Regional Court in 2013, for the totality of crimes, the perpetrator was given a final sentence of 22 years in prison in a high-security correctional colony,” the court added.
It is noted that in his last word Kanaev, who was tried under articles of murder and banditry, admitted guilt, repented of his deeds and asked for forgiveness from the victims. In their favor, the court recovered from him compensation for moral damage in the amount of 2 million rubles.
The verdict has not entered into legal force.
Previously, the leader of the Saranskie gang, Vitaly Kiriyenko, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for a number of crimes, including leading a gang and the murder of three people committed by an organized group. Before this, two more gang members were sentenced to 18 and 5 years in prison.
