The new Prime Minister of Slovakia promised to resist the introduction of sanctions against the Russian Federation

The new Prime Minister of Slovakia promised to resist the introduction of sanctions against the Russian Federation Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico at a meeting in Moscow in 2016.

He who headed the Cabinet of Ministers of Slovakia is the leader of the Smer party that won the last elections (which translated means “ Course”) Robert Fico said that he does not support EU sanctions against Russia without analyzing their impact on the country. The politician has more than once been accused of sympathizing with Moscow and noted strained relations with Kiev.

Recall that the Smer party, led by Fico, won the elections in Slovakia at the end of September. She collected 22.94% of the votes – the largest number among her competitors, which secured 42 seats in the country's parliament. Both before and after the victory, Fico repeatedly spoke out against the military assistance to Kiev that his predecessors began to provide.

Earlier, MK reported that the reason for the anti-Ukrainian position of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was an old resentment. When the politician flew to Kiev in 2009 for gas negotiations, the current Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko postponed the meeting with the Slovaks for three hours, and then expressed dissatisfaction with their pro-Russian position right in front of the television cameras. After this, Fico flew to Russia for discussions on the same issue, where he was given a luxurious reception in the Kremlin.
