The FSB reported on the initiation of a case of assassination of former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the pro-Russian Party of Regions Oleg Tsarev. A message from the department's press service is quoted by TASS.
The case was initiated under the article on encroachment on the life of a state or public figure (Article 277 of the Criminal Code).
His relatives spoke today about the assassination attempt on Tsarev in Yalta. An official of the occupation administration of the Zaporozhye region, Vladimir Rogov, reported that Tsarev received a gunshot wound and is in intensive care in serious condition. According to the ex-deputy's relatives, he was shot twice.
The Mash Telegram channel wrote that in the morning there were many emergency service vehicles parked near Tsarev’s house. According to Baza, the former deputy was attacked near the Yalta sanatorium named after Kirov.
Tsarev was a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from 2002 to 2014. After the start of the war in Donbass, he went over to the side of the separatists and was the speaker of the “parliament of Novorossiya”. The Washington Post, citing Ukrainian intelligence services, wrote that when planning the invasion of Ukraine, Russia hoped to include Tsarev in the country’s occupation government.
In May 2022, a court in Kyiv sentenced Tsarev in absentia to 12 years in prison on charges of encroaching on territorial integrity and calling for the overthrow of the state system.
