NIZHNY NOVGOROD, October 31A drunk driver from Mari El, who killed a teenage motorcyclist and kicked his wounded passenger, was sentenced to 12 years in a general regime colony, the republic's prosecutor's office reports.
The investigation and court established that on September 14, 2022, in the Mari-Turek district, a 41-year-old man, driving a car while intoxicated, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a motorcycle. As a result of the accident, the minor driver of the motorcycle died on the spot, and the teenage passenger of the motorcycle was seriously injured.
«After the accident, the man approached the minor passenger of the motorcycle and, kicking him in the stomach, stole his mobile phone. Realizing that the young man was injured as a result of the accident “, the man did not take measures to provide assistance for about one hour and did not call emergency services,” the message says.
A criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of Russia («Violation of traffic rules by a person driving a car while intoxicated, resulting in the death of a person»), Article 161 of the Criminal Code («Robbery») and Article 125 of the Criminal Code («Leaving in danger» ).
“The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, found the man guilty and sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment served in a correctional facility general regime colony,” the message says.
The court also satisfied civil claims for the recovery of moral damages from the convicted person in the amount of four million rubles.
