MOSCOW, November 6. Exhibition of the State Museum of L.N. Tolstoy «Repin: The Myth of Tolstoy» opened on November 6 at the Museum of the artist and writer Mu Xin in China. This was reported by the press service of the Russian institution.
“For admirers of Russian art in China, the State Museum of Leo Tolstoy will tell about the two pillars of Russian culture — the world-famous artist and writer — and will open the door to their creative workshops,” the museum said. “Since Mu Xin was both an artist and a writer , Chinese art critics found the theme of the exhibition most suitable for their site.»
The exhibition will tell about the 30-year friendship of Leo Tolstoy and Ilya Repin and the mutual influence of the two geniuses. As art historians have noted, the artist looked at the writer as a mythological hero, was drawn to him and completed several dozen paintings and graphic images of Tolstoy.
The Tolstoy Museum clarified that their Chinese colleagues were interested in presenting authentic works and objects, and requested several paintings by Repin for the exhibition, which were supplemented by Tolstoy's manuscripts, as well as drawings by Tatyana Sukhotina-Tolstaya, who studied with Repin.

In total, the exhibition included 41 items. The receiving party guaranteed the safety and security of all things; during transportation, the exhibits were placed in special climatic boxes, the cargo was decorated as especially valuable.
The exhibition was prepared in 2019, it was shown in Russia and Belarus: in two museums-estates of Repin — “Penates” near St. Petersburg and “Zdravnevo” near Vitebsk, as well as in museums and exhibition centers of Lipetsk, Cheboksary, Minsk.
