< br />KRASNODAR, November 10Archaeologists of the Russian Academy of Sciences discovered the burial of an ancient warrior with a horse at the construction site of an interchange in the Kuban, where an ancient ground burial ground of the 4th-3rd centuries BC was previously found, the press service reported Uprdor “Black Sea”.
Earlier, at the confluence of two federal highways, A-146 Krasnodar – Verkhnebakansky and A-290 Novorossiysk – Kerch, where construction of an interchange began, scientists discovered artifacts “with signs of cultural heritage” from the pre-Christian era. The find was identified as an ancient ground burial ground of the 4th-3rd centuries BC. Among the artifacts, the neck of a Heraclean amphora and fragments of red clay vessels were discovered. Experts claim that “ceramic container materials” from Heraclea Pontica are quite rare in the Black Sea region. At the end of October, at the site of the road construction site, archaeologists of the Russian Academy of Sciences began large-scale excavations on an area of about 2 thousand square meters.
“In the last week alone, experts discovered several burial complexes, including the burial of a warrior, in which large fragments of a Heraclean amphora, two iron spearheads, an iron knife, and bronze arrowheads were preserved. Human remains and part of a skeleton were preserved in a stone box destroyed by ancient robbers his horses,” the report said.
Senior researcher at the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Rukavishnikova added that judging by the remains found, the male warrior was presumably 30-35 years old.
“On its lower part of the skeleton we found parts of a horse skeleton. The neck of an amphora was also found nearby. Judging by the nature of the finds, the burial was looted in ancient times, since among the artifacts there are only parts of a funeral rite and a disturbed human skeleton,” notes Rukavishnikova.
According to the press service of the Uprdor “Chernomorye”, archaeologists plan to complete all work by the end of the year.
The new interchange at the entrance to the village of Verkhnebakansky from Novorossiysk will become part of a large Rosavtodor project to build high-speed approaches on the far approaches to the Crimean Bridge, the department added.
