YEKATERINBURG, November 16. The convict died in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Yekaterinburg after a fight with a cellmate, investigative actions are now underway, said the head of the press service of the regional GUFSIN Alexander Levchenko.
Earlier, the Komsomolskaya Pravda publication, citing its sources, wrote that, according to preliminary information, two convicts died in Yekaterinburg pre-trial detention center No. 1: one from beatings received from other prisoners, the second, allegedly from a drug overdose.
“People in our pre-trial detention center do not die mysteriously. They die naturally, but not mysteriously. We do not comment on this case because the investigation is ongoing, however, I confirm that we had a violent death, but this is the only case in several years In the cell, one on a serious charge and the other on a difficult one, they got into a fight,” said the agency’s interlocutor, clarifying that we are talking about pre-trial detention center No. 1 in the Ural capital.
«An assessment is made of all law enforcement agencies, we draw conclusions, on the contrary, we are interested in ensuring that this does not happen again,» the department added.
However, the press service denied the death of a prisoner from a drug overdose. “What drugs? No one died from an overdose,” Levchenko emphasized.
The regional department of the Investigative Committee refrained from commenting on this incident.
