Former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov, who was arrested in July on charges of extremism, called on his supporters from the pre-trial detention center to form a headquarters for his nomination for the presidency of Russia.
Strelkov’s ally Oleg Nelzin read out at a meeting of the “Russian Movement for Strelkov” appeal from the ex-Minister of Defense of the DPR.
Strelkov asked supporters to form an initiative group that would collect signatures for his nomination for President of the Russian Federation.
Recall that the Federation Council must approve the date of the elections in December president. This is expected to be March 17, 2024. According to Russian law, Strelkov has the right to run for president; his status as an accused in a criminal case does not interfere with this, but if he is convicted before the elections, he will not be able to take part in the election campaign.
