ST. PETERSBURG, November 18. People's Artist of Russia, conductor Valery Gergiev, answering a question about a possible appointment to the position of director of the Bolshoi Theater, recalled that he heads the Mariinsky Theater.
““I head the Mariinsky Theater. Period,” he said after receiving the first Hermitage Prize in St. Petersburg.
Gergiev emphasized that he would not comment on the situation.
The day before, the Izvestia newspaper reported , that the posts of directors of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters will be combined by conductor, artistic director and general director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev. The publication claims that this may be announced at the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum, which takes place from November 16 to 18.
