BEIJING, Dec. 2Since the beginning of the year, more than 20 billion cubic meters of gas have been supplied to China along the eastern route of the China-Russia gas pipeline, which is a record figure, China Daily writes on Saturday, citing the China National Pipeline Corporation (PipeChina).
“»Since the beginning of the year, more than 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been transported through the pipeline, which is a record figure,» the newspaper writes, citing PipeChina.
It is noted that since the gas pipeline was put into operation four years ago, more than 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been transported.
«The pipeline's throughput capacity has gradually increased since the start of operation. It is expected that throughput capacity will increase further in 2024, which will significantly increase the possibility of supplying natural gas (to China),» the statement said.
Gazprom is now supplying pipeline gas to China via the eastern route — the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. Deliveries through it began at the end of 2019 and in 2020 amounted to 4.1 billion cubic meters, in 2021 they increased to 10.4 billion, and the design annual capacity of 38 billion cubic meters is planned to be reached by 2025.
In December last year, the Xinhua news agency, citing the company responsible for the project, PipeChina, reported that China had completed on its territory the extension of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline to supply Russian gas to Shanghai, located on the east coast of the country.
PipeChina noted that the eastern branch of the China-Russia gas pipeline on the territory of the PRC starts from the border city of Heihe and now ends in Shanghai, the total length of the line in China is 5,111 kilometers.
