Dating app Pure has removed the ability for users from Russia to indicate sexual orientation

The dating app Pure has removed the ability for Russian users to indicate their sexual orientation when registering; this was noticed by Twitter users and the telegram channel “Caution, News”.

For users from other countries, the option to indicate their sexual orientation when registering was left (the options in the column are hetero, bi, gay, queer or asexual). In Russia, now you can only choose your height, weight and languages of communication.

Pure was created by businessmen Roman Sidorenko and Alexander Kukhtenko. The application was initially positioned as a service for quick sex dating; it appeared on the Russian market in 2014. The application also operates in the USA, France, Great Britain, Canada, Germany and other countries, with the main office located in Portugal.

In May 2023, Tinder Match Group, which includes the popular dating application Tinder in Russia, decided to completely leave Russia because of the war in Ukraine.

On November 30, the Supreme Court, at the request of the Ministry of Justice, declared “extremist” and banned the “International LGBT Social Movement” in Russia. In fact, such a movement does not exist. The lawsuit was preceded by the adoption of two repressive anti-LGBT laws in Russia. First, the law on “LGBT propaganda” was extended to people of all ages, and then medical interventions related to the transgender transition and changing the gender marker in documents were banned.
