MOSCOW, December 3 Spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces ( IDF Brigadier General Daniel Hagari said that two ships previously attacked by the Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) ruling in northern Yemen in the Red Sea are not related to Israel, Reuters reports, citing a statement.
Previously, the representative of the armed forces of the movement, Yahya Saria, stated that the Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) ruling in the north of Yemen attacked two Israeli ships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The first ship was attacked by a missile and the second by a drone, a Houthi spokesman said.
“Today, missiles were fired at two commercial vessels not associated with the State of Israel. I will repeat to be clear: the vessels did not have any connection with the State of Israel,” the agency quotes Hagari as saying during speeches to journalists in Tel Aviv.
As Reuters notes, citing Hagari, one ship was significantly damaged, is in distress and is apparently in danger of sinking, and the other received “light damage.”
«He (Daniel Hagari — ed.) studied this incident together with the US Central Command and the US Sixth Fleet before informing journalists. He also accused Iran of attacking the ships,» the agency notes.
Earlier, the Al-Hadath TV channel, citing a Pentagon statement, reported that American troops shot down a UAV of supporters of the Yemeni Shiite movement Ansar Allah (Houthis), which was moving towards the US Navy destroyer USS Carney and the Unity Explorer vessel.
During Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis announced several times that they were launching missiles and drones at the Israeli city of Eilat. The movement also warned of its intention to attack any ships associated with Israel, calling on other countries to recall their crews from them and not to approach them at sea.
