Member of the State Duma Committee on Defense, General Lieutenant Andrei Gurulev wrote in his telegram channel that Russia has revived the SMERSH counterintelligence service in new territories.
The parliamentarian explained that the created department operates on the principle of Soviet military counterintelligence. “We talked about SMERSH,— wrote Gurulev. “Today we have created a department that works in approximately the same way in new territories.”
A similar structure, in his opinion, should operate in Russian regions. According to him, he “talked with the Far East, where we have nuclear submarines based.” “They may also be in danger,” the deputy believes.
The name “SMERSH” (short for “Death to spies!”) belonged to the structures of Soviet counterintelligence from 1943 to 1946.
