US citizen Ernest Harry Mitchell was found dead in a temporary detention center for foreign citizens in the Gulkevichsky district of the Krasnodar Territory. This was reported by sources of Kommersant, RIA Novosti and the telegram channel VChK-OGPU.
Interlocutors of Kommersant and RIA Novosti say that the 56-year-old American committed suicide. The authors of the Cheka-OGPU call his death “strange.” Mitchell, according to the telegram channel, “was found in a toilet stall with cut arteries and veins in his legs, arms and neck.”
In mid-November, the Central District Court of Sochi fined a foreigner three thousand rubles and ordered his expulsion outside Russia under a protocol on violation of the rules for staying in the country (Part 1 of Article 18.8 of the Administrative Code).
The court decision states that Mitchell did not have a medical policy that he could use in Russia. A RIA Novosti source claims that the American was detained when he tried to leave for Abkhazia with “undeclared money.”
