SIMFEROPOL, December 5 The Sea of Azov will receive the status internal, said State Duma deputy from the Crimean region Mikhail Sheremet.
““A bill has been submitted to the State Duma designed to secure for the Sea of Azov the status of an exclusively inland sea of the Russian Federation, which is no longer subject to the actions and principles of international legislation, since historical justice has triumphed and Ukraine has lost the status of a coastal state here,” the interlocutor said agency.
The relevant committee has already approved the bill, Sheremet specified.
He emphasized that deputies will try to adopt the document before the end of the year.
The Sea of Azov became an inland sea of Russia in 2022 after joining its composition of new regions: Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as the DPR. Before this, the sea was considered the internal waters of Russia and Ukraine.
On June 1, the State Duma denounced the 2003 agreement on cooperation with Ukraine in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait. As noted, the need to terminate the agreement arose after Ukraine lost its status as a coastal state.
