The Basmanny District Court of Moscow sent 30-year-old Evgeniy Shitikov to a pre-trial detention center, who is accused of selling personal data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs databases. This is stated in the resolution on the selection of a preventive measure, published on the website of the capital's courts.
The Butyrsky Interdistrict Investigation Department opened a case of unlawful access to computer information against Shitikov (Part 4 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code) on April 3. According to investigators, he and his accomplices distributed personal data of Russians, which they received from the Ministry of Internal Affairs databases, for money.
The Investigative Committee considered that “in the context of a special military operation,” Shitikov’s actions entailed grave consequences, since they “created a real threat of transferring this information to the enemy for use in the preparation of other serious crimes” against Russian citizens.
During the search, it follows from the court order, “records containing an algorithm for using information banks of the Ministry of Internal Affairs” were found at Shitikov’s house.
At the same time, the investigator, in his petition for arrest, insisted that the accused could “continue his criminal activities” because he “does not have permanent registration” and is “not sufficiently socialized.”
Shitikov and his lawyer Zalutsky said that the investigator’s arguments were “unfounded, unfounded, and not documented,” since over nine months Shitikov repeatedly came to the investigative authorities and did not interfere with the preliminary investigation.
The lawyer added that Shitikov had not been convicted and that he had a permanent place of residence, but the judge agreed with the investigator and prosecutor and sent the man to a pre-trial detention center until February 6.
As TASS writes , Shitikov explained that he rents housing in Moscow and works as an individual entrepreneur — he provides rental services for special equipment. According to him, the investigation confiscated all the material evidence in the case from him: “I had two searches in the same premises, and when the investigator called, I showed up for all investigative actions and confrontations [with other defendants in the case],” Shitikov said in court.
