White House Strategic Coordinator Communications John Kirby, answering a question about the US position in connection with Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to participate in the next presidential election, said that “there will be a race for the right thing.”
“This will be a race for the right thing. That's all I'll say about it,” Kirby said with a laugh.
Earlier on Friday, Putin announced his intentions to run for the 2024 presidential election. This term could be Putin's fifth; he previously won elections in 2000, 2004, 2012 and 2018.
In accordance with amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, Putin has the opportunity to take part in the presidential elections, which will be held in March next year.
