MOSCOW, December 9 New and new sanctions against Russia to the West are no longer important from the point of view of the result, but as an informational occasion, to show in such a way that he continues to support Ukraine, said Alexander Shirov, director of the Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
«»Washington and Brussels will not stop. Each new round of sanctions is important for them not from the point of view of the result, but as an information occasion demonstrating that the EU continues to support Ukraine,» he said.
At the same time, the expert added that “without in any way belittling the impact of sanctions on the Russian economy, which are becoming tougher each time, they did not achieve the main thing.”
After all, when starting to introduce sanctions, Shirov noted, the West was counting on a short-term effect. “This was his bet. The West wanted to quickly inflict, as the military says, unacceptable damage on Moscow, causing discontent among everyone — both business and the population. Nothing like that, however, happened,” the agency’s interlocutor emphasized.
