“FAS Russia suggested that retailers, as a temporary measure, consider limiting the markup on all chicken eggs to no more than five percent. Retail chain «Verny» supported the service’s proposal: markups for purchases at tenders are already limited, the issue of a similar limitation for purchases under long-term supply contracts is being considered,” the department clarified.
In addition, the Globus hypermarket limited markups to up to five percent for one product in each category of eggs, while Azbuka Vkusa limited markups to ten percent for an Okskoye chicken egg of category C2. In addition, the press service noted that these two networks for the first time joined the initiative to limit markups on socially important food products.
Prices for eggs and chicken meat increased in 2023 amid a significant increase in demand, so the department is implementing measures to stabilize the situation.
Thus, the FAS is now analyzing the validity of establishing wholesale selling prices; for this purpose, its territorial bodies have requested data from manufacturing companies on the formation of prices for chicken eggs, and the central office has requested information on price dynamics from ten federal retail chains.
In addition, the department developed and submitted to the government a bill allowing to suppress the actions of economic entities that lead to the establishment of economically unjustified prices for certain types of goods. The press service also reported that today at the expert council of the Federal Antimonopoly Service on the development of competition in the retail trade, issues of prices for socially important food products were discussed, including the development of responsible pricing practices and tightening regulation of consumer markets.
