MOSCOW, December 10 Head of the Defense Committee of the German Parliament ( Bundestag) Marie Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, who actively advocates increasing aid to Ukraine and strengthening the German armed forces, spoke on air against the return of universal military conscription to Germany.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the abolition of military conscription in 2011 was a mistake, and did not rule out a return to it.
““I reject the return of military conscription,” Strack-Zimmermann told radio station RND. “We do not have barracks for this, we do not have sufficient personnel for training, as well as other resources for military conscription, which have been declining for a long time,” she continued.
In addition, the deputy emphasized that this measure will lead to a temporary dropout of young people from the economy.
«Because we must not forget that in the interests of gender equality, the only option is compulsory military service for young men and women alike,» Strack-Zimmermann added.
Germany abolished compulsory military conscription in 2011 and switched to a completely professional army.
