A court in St. Petersburg arrested a citizen of the United States and Russia because of two posts with offensive captions for the St. George ribbons

The Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg arrested US and Russian citizen Yuri Malev on charges of rehabilitation of Nazism (Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the press service of the city courts.

The reason for the case was two publications by a man in Odnoklassniki. On June 8 last year, Malev posted the St. George’s ribbon on his page and added a caption to the image, which the courts’ press service described as: “an identifying mark of a person with a non-traditional sexual orientation.” Another sane post – an image of a corpse with the caption “how to wear the St. George’s ribbon correctly” – was published by Malev on May 8, 2023.

According to Baza, a denunciation against the man was written by an 86-year-old pensioner. Malev was detained on December 8. According to the press service of the St. Petersburg courts, he partially admitted his guilt and asked to assign him any preventive measure other than arrest in a pre-trial detention center.
