On November 29, the First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction overturned the conviction of businessman from the Yaroslavl region Rovshan Namazov in the case of high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code) and smuggling (Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code). Mediazona was told about this by the court’s press service.
On September 8, the Yaroslavl Regional Court sentenced Namazov to 13 years in a maximum security colony and two years of restriction of freedom. This verdict was not previously reported. The appeal court overturned the verdict due to a “significant violation of the criminal procedure law.” The case was sent for a new trial.
According to data on the websites of the appellate courts, which were analyzed by Mediazona, this is the first case in at least the last five years when a conviction for treason was overturned and the case was sent for review.
Namazov is accused of high treason and two counts of smuggling: preparation for smuggling by an organized group (Part 1 of Article 30, Part 3 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code) and smuggling by an organized group (Part 3 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code). What exactly, according to investigators, Namazov was transporting is not specified.

«Mediazona» discovered that on » Avito” entrepreneur sold engines for military equipment, for example, UTD-20, V-46-6 and V-84, and various parts such as valves and pumps. Some of the engines in the pictures are in their original packaging; under these conditions they are stored in warehouses. The earliest announcement was dated January 2021, the latest was published on January 24, 2022, three weeks before the arrest. The Lefortovo Court in Moscow sent Namazov under arrest on February 16, 2022.
