MOSCOW, December 12 Based on the results of 2023, the Russian Federation will be able to increase the level of self-sufficiency in fruits and berries; in 2022 its value was 47% with a threshold level of at least 60%, reported Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Andrei Razin during a round table in the Federation Council on measures to protect and ensure growth in the production of domestic fruits and vegetables.
“We certainly do not dispute the task of achieving the threshold value according to the doctrine; in fact, by 2022 we have crossed 47% of self-sufficiency, and this year we also plan to increase it somewhat,” Razin said. The threshold value of the Food Security Doctrine of the Russian Federation for the level of self-sufficiency in fruits and berries is at least 60%.

“In the horticulture industry, over the past 5 years, we have established 78 thousand hectares of new gardens and nurseries. Gradually, these volumes are entering the market, yielding crops, and in the coming years, the current reserve allows us to increase production volumes. We continue to work to increase the area under intensive gardens.” , — said the deputy minister.

“Taking into account the development prospects, we understand that in addition to the existing volumes, it is necessary to plant about 52 thousand hectares of new perennial plantings. This will allow the total collection of fruits and berries to increase to 2.2 million tons in order to reach our goal in terms of production volume and solution questions on the food security doctrine,» Razin said.
He recalled that the emphasis is now on domestic selection, and here the market needs are met by Russian producers, but there are still difficulties with import substitution of garden equipment, and this direction is being worked on jointly with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
«We still don’t have garden tractors, and this largely makes us dependent on supplies from abroad, affects the cost: here, components, and everything related to maintenance — all this depends on external supplies. We very much hope that with our colleagues we will resolve the issue of agricultural machinery for gardening in the coming years. For us this is a priority,» the deputy minister emphasized.
