The work of the largest Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar experienced a major failure, as a result of which subscribers lost communications and the Internet, the company reported.
General Director of the Kyivstar provider Alexander Komarov and the Security Service of Ukraine named a cyber attack as the cause of the failure.
The SBU opened criminal proceedings under eight criminal articles, including articles on interference in the operation of critical infrastructure, treason and sabotage. According to one version of the SBU, Russian special services may be involved in the attack.
A failure in the work of Kyivstar led to the air raid warning system in Sumy being turned off. Patrol police officers and the State Emergency Service will temporarily warn residents about them.
Due to the shutdown of the mobile network, some ATMs and POS terminals stopped working, the press services of Privatbank and Oschadbank told Hromadske, and in Lviv they had to manually turn off the street lights.
