WASHINGTON, December 13 US President Joe Biden does not intend to pardon his son Hunter Biden if he is found guilty of the alleged tax crimes, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
Hunter Biden was previously charged with nine counts of evading $1.4 million in taxes from 2016 to 2020. As noted, instead of paying taxes, he spent millions of dollars on an “extravagant lifestyle,” including drugs and escorts. Media reported that he faces up to 17 years in prison on the new charges. Hunter Biden's defense team has called the tax evasion case against him politically motivated.
“I've made it very clear that the President is not going to pardon his son,” she said during a briefing.
In July, the White House also ruled out that Biden would have to pardon his son on tax evasion and criminal possession charges weapons.
Hunter Biden is the first child of a sitting US president to be prosecuted in history. In the first case, according to investigators, in 2018, when purchasing a Colt pistol, he provided incorrect information, denying drug use. Based on the totality of the charges brought against him, he faces up to 25 years in prison and a fine of $750 thousand, while a prison term in such cases is usually not imposed on first-time offenders.
