IZHEVSK, December 15 AvtoVAZ is considering the possibility of producing electric cars Lada Niva and Vesta, and is working on their prototypes, company president Maxim told reporters Sokolov.
«We assume that we will develop electric propulsion, we have plans. And, moreover, there are already prototypes of these cars — they are now being tested at our test site in Togliatti: both the electric Niva and in the future the electric Vesta,» — he said, answering a question about the production of new electric models at AvtoVAZ.
«Since they will be produced from components in Tolyatti, these will be the most highly localized domestic electric cars in terms of their level. But everything will depend on demand, because we see that while the market for cars with internal combustion engines is larger in volume, more familiar to our customers,” he added.
AvtoVAZ owns production sites in Tolyatti, Izhevsk and St. Petersburg. In mid-May last year, the French Renault transferred its share in AvtoVAZ (67.69%) to the state ownership of the Russian Federation. Now the brand consists of four families of models: Vesta, Largus, Granta and Niva. Sales of the brand's cars in 2022 amounted to 188.6 thousand cars (-46% by 2021).
